Rushen Round Table – Human Fruit Machine

Rushen Roundtable unveiled their newest fun raising idea at the fair field on Tynwald Day eariler this week… the Human Fruit Machine.

The public’s reception of the human fruit machine was unanimous and overwhelming. At the end of the day Chairman Carl Hawker reported “I am so proud of all of you that helped out today at tynwald fair. The joy on the faces of both kids and adults made it a real success.”

The proceeds go to this years Chairman’s charity PHAB (Physically Handicapped Able Bodied Club) which Rushen Roundtable have been supporting for over 20 years.

The overall profit on the day was over £500 and the next outing of the Human Fruit Machine will be on Friday 9th July at the Queenie Festival in Port Erin, the machine will become the Human Fish Machine for one night only.

Youtube footage can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCGuraDPZfs which will hopefully be a good link on the IOM Newspapers website.

People can see the Human Fruit Machine in action over the summer at the St.Mark’s Fair and the Southern Agricultural Show.

A quick update on events in Area 8. Please come along and support these events and have a great time too!

  • First up we have Area 8 Piggy on Wed, 30th June. A top night of fun and sportsmanship. Come and claim the trophy from reigning champions Southport Hesketh 1199. Please book in promptly with Lee Collier (IP Area Chairman onContact Us page)
  • Following that over the weekend of 2nd & 3rd July we have the Area 8 Caravan and Camping Weekend kindly organised by Past Area 8 Chairman Keith Wieland.
  • Next we have the most fantastic and excellent Family BBQ & Sailing night organised by Prescot Round Table on the evening of Wed, 7th July. I can’t recommend this event enough – if you haven’t been before get yourselves over there for a fantastic (and cheap) night of fun and fellowship. There’s plenty to do for all (drinking, cooking, sailing. etc.. 😉 so bring the family along (and get the missus to drive!).
  • NSW 2010 – and our chance for Area 8 to win this prestigious trophy for the first time ever! – is in September. Your Area sports officer has negotiated a fantastic sports only deal including an Area 8 NSW polo shirt for less than £50! For further details and to book in please contact Lee Collier (IP Area Chairman on Contact Us page)
  • Rushen Round Table’s Charter is on the night of the 16th October. Get your flights / ferry booked early for a fun night of celebration! Tabling on the IOM has seen some changes this year with Tables presence being consolidated into and driven forwards (in a most excellent manner) by Rushen Round Table. Gents, let us give Rushen RT our full support and help and assist in celebrating their years and initiatives. Further details to follow.
  • And finally chaps, a note about the Area 8 Ball. This seasons Area 8 Ball will be part of the National Presidents Ball and will be held in Southport on Sat, 5th March 2011. Book in early to avoid disappointment – this event is open to all of RTBI / RTI (!) and will sell out fast! www.kilsh.co.uk/ball

If you want the answers and get a chance to visit in the future take it! The sheer scale of the operation is quite remarkable.

Spit Happens! A plea for Help to Save a Life

Anthony NolanFollowing on from Last Mondays most enjoyable meeting with Bootle, Crosby and District 163 – for which I must not only thank them most sincerely for their hospitality but also congratulate them on their initiatives…

BC&D are planning on running an Anthony Nolan Clinic during the two days of the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool.

This is a big initiative and will involve a fair amount of organisation and effort. It does however promise the potential to reach hundreds if not thousands of new names for the ANT register.

If the registrations we take over the two days save but one life then surely that is a fantastic achievement we can all be proud of.

We know We Can do this, We Can make the difference!

What can I do? What do you want from me? I hear you ask…

First and foremost – and I can’t stress this enough – all help needs to be channelled through BC&D (contact details below) who will liaise with ANT and direct your efforts accordingly.

The clinics require the appropriate Permissions & Licenses and a Venue to run the clinic(s) over the two days.

If any of you have any influential contacts or acquaintances within the council or festival organisers then please contact BC&D first to discuss how you may be able to help assist in getting the licenses granted.

We also need a minimum of one venue to run the clinic over the festival weekend. So, if you have a venue or premises in mind then again, please contact BC&D who will co-ordinate the efforts and pool the possible venues together.

Gents, let us all get behind this initiative with the full force of Area 8 Tablers and give it our complete and total support.

Contact BC&Ds Secretary and your Area 8 Vice Chairman by selecting Vice Chairman on the Contact Us page.

It’s scary how good some of those there were – now we know who not to get into a quarrel with 😉 I think the scoring system was from “Who’s Line is it Anyway” 😉
